Kuni Tripathy was born in Cuttack, India but began her artistic career in the mountains of Cali, Colombia. After moving to New Orleans in 1971, Kuni’s academic career continued, earning her a BA in fine arts from the University of New Orleans. She participated in numerous workshops under notable artists such as Doug Walton, Edgar Whitney, and Robert E. Wood. Her work has been exhibited throughout Louisiana and elsewhere, including the New Orleans International Trade Mart, Huber House Gallery in New Orleans, and LSU Archive building in Baton Rouge. Her numerous awards encompass accolades in the variety and progression of media and styles that mark Kuni’s artistic journey. Her Indian heritage, her sojourn in the South American Andes and in the city of New Orleans, and her travel experiences are embodied in her unique and dynamic work.
